Princess Diana didn’t end up with her one true love because it was neither Prince Charles nor Dodi
Princess Diana has remained one of the most popular royals even decades after she passed away. Royal fans still talk about her, and there are still moves and projects about her.
Kristen Stewart’s biopic Spencer is making waves with some predicting that she would win her first Oscar for her portrayal of the late Princess of Wales in the film.
However, there are still a lot of things about Princess Diana that the public or new generation isn’t probably aware of. The People’s Princess didn’t end up with her one true love, according to an expert.
Princess Diana didn’t end up with the love of her life
Princess Diana married the future king, Prince Charles, in a fairytale-like wedding. However, they didn’t have a happy ending.
Emma Cooper, the executive producer of the CNN series Diana, said Princess Diana’s true love was not Prince Charles. It was also not her last boyfriend, Dodi Fayed, who was with her during the automobile accident that led to her death.
According to Cooper, Princess Diana’s true love was a surgeon named Dr. Hasnat Khan.
Prince William and Prince Harry’s mom had an “extraordinary long relationship” with the doctor. She “really, really wanted to marry him,” Cooper added. However, she couldn’t push it because “it was just impossible.” The late royal knew he couldn’t step into the world she lived.
Cooper said marrying Princess Diana “comes at a price.” And Khan’s job and Princess Diana’s role in the British society just made it “very difficult for him to go along with that relationship.”
Hasnat allegedly broke Princess Diana’s heart which led her to “settle” with Dodi Fayed, who died with her in a car crash in Paris in 1997.
Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ rocky relationship revisited
While Princess Diana and Prince Charles’ royal wedding was like a fairytale came true, their marriage was devoid of love. Royale expert Elizabeth Holmes, author of HRH: So Many Thoughts on Royal Style, spoke with Us Weekly ahead of CNN’s new docuseries Diana and she likened their marriage to a “business transaction.”
“Diana just checked so many boxes and sort of slotted right in and was clearly very eager and willing and wanting to please,” Holmes said. “She’s making this huge life decision without stable family behind her [and] much guidance.”
In her infamous Panorama interview, Princess Diana said her relationship with Prince Charles didn’t work because “there were three of us in this marriage,” implying his affair with Camilla Parker Bowles.
There were reportedly a lot of red flags before they wed. During their engagement interview, they were asked about being in love and Princess Diana said, “Of course.” Meanwhile, the heir apparent only said dryly, “Whatever in love means.”
Prince Charles said he had “no intention of remarrying” after Princess Diana’s death. However, he proceeded to wed Camilla in 2005, Reader’s Digest reported.
