Royal fans (and critics) have wondered whether Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would return to the U.K. in the not-so-distant future due to various different things, including problems with his U.S. visa and their failed professional projects to name just two.
However, the Duke of Sussex, 40, confirmed that he and the American Riviera Orchard founder, 43, will be remaining in the U.S. – more specifically, Montecito, California, where they currently live – for the foreseeable future.
Prince Harry Seemingly Confirms He And Meghan Markle Are Staying In The US For The Foreseeable Future
During an appearance at the annual DealBook Summit in New York on Wednesday, December 4th, where he also addressed the constant divorce rumors that he and his wife are currently facing, Prince Harry said: “I very much enjoy living here and bringing up my kids here.”
The Spare author went on to say that he was focused on “being the best husband and the best dad that I can be.” He then claimed that he and his children, Prince Archie and Princess Lilibet , could enjoy activities that they “undoubtedly wouldn’t be able to do in the U.K.,” if they stay in the United States, which is one of the main reasons he and the former Suits actress want to stay put.
It’s likely that he is referring to his fears for his family’s safety in the U.K., which is partly brought on by his private security being taken away since stepping down as a working royal. He previously said that he feared that he and his family could be victims of an “acid or knife attack” in the U.K. without proper security.
Internet Reactions
As expected, Prince Harry’s comment about not wanting to return to the U.K. garnered a lot of attention on social media – most of it negative!
“The best news, I don’t think he is welcomed back,” quipped one non-fan on a Daily Mail Instagram post, followed by three crying laughing emojis. “Wonderful news finally Harry you are doing the right thing, please don’t think we want you to come back,” concurred a second, as a third echoed: “Thank God for that. We don’t want him back. Give up your titles Harry.”
“So he’s finally got the message that his GB family and friends are so done with him,” added a fourth person. “No one cares about you and your wife,” slammed a fifth, followed by the crying laughing emoji. “Nobody wants him,” wrote a sixth in agreement. “Portugal doesn’t want you guys here either!!” exclaimed another IG user, in relation to the rumors that he and Meghan were contemplating buying a house in Portugal.
