Dozens of licensed medical and mental health professionals have signed a petition to formally diagnose Presidential candidate Donald Trump with dementia.
In the run-up to the 2024 Presidential election, where Trump is expected to win the Republican nomination, the former President took part in several political rallies. During these rallies, however, the 77-year-old made several verbal faux pas, as shown in this video.
In one instance, Trump pronounced Venezuela as “Venezwheregullah.” This slip-up, along with several others, prompted one psychologist to say the verbal mistakes were “consistent with a diagnosis of dementia,” as reported by Raw Story.
John Gartner Ph.D. created a petition on Change.org which is entitled: “We diagnose Trump with dementia: A petition for licensed professionals only.” The online petition says that those who sign it are “licensed medical and mental health professionals.”
The description of the petition created John Gartner continues:(licensed medical and mental health professionals “diagnose Donald Trump with moderate to advanced dementia, based on his public behavior and informant reports that show progressive deterioration in multiple higher cortical functions including: memory, thinking, ability to use language, orientation, learning capacity, judgement, and both gross and fine motor skills.
“We feel an ethical obligation to warn the public and urge the media to cover this national emergency,” the petition description continues.
There are currently 91 signatures on the petition, and has also been advocated by Duty To Warn, an association that describes itself as “an association of mental health professionals warning NOW about TrumpISM.” They called on medical and mental health professionals to sign the petition.
“IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT: If you are a licensed medical or mental health professional, please sign this petition diagnosing Trump with dementia,” the group wrote last week. “Circulate as widely as possible.”
